Personality Post: Introducing Charlie!

charlie_post

Hey There! My name is Charlie Townsend. I am from Jackson, MS and my interests include music (any kind as long as it’s good), food, podcasts (This American Life being my favorite), Suits, hot English Breakfast tea, long stories, soft drinks (also hard drinks), sunflower seeds, TV on Blu Ray, Tie bars, my couch, Esquire magazine, quiet evenings, rowdy evenings, and fine carpentry.
Here at Libby Story I am the Retail Designer and Production Builder. My job is to help give the stores their look as well as to design and produce original, hand made pieces that will be sold at our various locations. These designs will be a variety of pieces for use in your home (or office) such as tables, chairs, hanging wall art or accent pieces, lighting fixtures etc. Some will be rehab pieces, some original builds. All will be made with an accent on vintage style usually with a rustic flavor
Along those lines you will soon be seeing some brand new lines of furniture coming out of the LS factory very soon. Each line will be handcrafted and designed so that no two pieces are exactly the same.

Happy Holidays & stay tuned for more updates….

Gift Guide for Your Guy: The Designer

As a designer I know buying gifts for a designer can be tricky sometimes. Designers, by trade are connoisseurs of the art, music, fashion and culture around them. We continually test the new gadgets, trends and equipment, finding exactly what we like and what works for us. So knowing what your designer uses can be key to buying them gifts they’ll enjoy and use this holiday season.
For example, I am in constant need of liner brushes, bottles of ink, Micron pens of all sizes, fine art papers, sketchbooks, and more. If you know what your designer guy uses on a daily basis, it makes for some cheap and easy gifts.
1. Specific Supplies (Nearest Art Supply Store) [$2-$20]
Remember that designers always need inspiration so magazine subscriptions, art books, design books and art prints are always good purchases. Here’s a selection of gifts that will inspire your designer guy.

DIY Post: Festive Backdrop

It’s the holiday season- There are a million celebrations happening- maybe you’re even hosting an event of your own? Here’s a simple, cheap and festive way to decorate and give a little extra whimsy to any event. This backdrop texture also works WONDERS for photos. We chose bright colors for this DIY for the ease of visual instruction, but we’ve previously used all white tissue paper and this same technique for occasions and the positive feedback hasn’t stopped yet!

Step 1: Fold 3 sheets of tissue paper in 1/2, long ways (crease at the top).

Step 2: Fold the tissue paper in 1/2  and then in 1/2 once again, and cut the left and right bottom corners off of your tissue paper to form a point at the bottom.

Step 3: Fringe the bottom of your tissue paper, about 1/2 way up.

Step 4: Unfold back to the form you made in Step 1

Step 5: Seperate the top layer from the back layer and stagger to make the appearance of 2 layers. Then crease to this form.

Step 6: Tape these sections to your wall or location of choice working your way from bottom to top. Make sure to tape on the top crease and from the crease inside as well. The interior tape holds the multiple sheets of tissue paper in place.

That’s it. Really. It’s that simple. Try it out, let us know how it works for you and if you’re super inspired, send us a photo!

Happy Handmade Holidays!

Fashion Post: Holiday 2012 Video

Meet Chanelle – one of our most cheerful and contagiously happy models- We couldn’t have picked a better model fit for this short video! These Jeffrey Campbell boots also turned out to be contagious… so dreamy. Did we make that fake snow our selves, you ask?? Of course we did- the pinecones and present wrapping too!

Anyways, what we’re trying to say is we hope this clip brings cheer and inspiration to your holiday season!
